Old Photographs, Mostly French-Related
I’m starting a photo series of old portrait photography on the off chance that someone recognizes any of the people or places.
The pictures above show my great-grandmother, her brother, and her parents in Rheims, Brussels, or London. My great-grandma said that she was from Reims and that the picture was taken in Reims. However, I recently found her birth record in Brussels in 1890 and her brother’s in 1888. And I know that her dad was in Brussels for most years from 1878 to 1914. Any of the civil status records I’ve found for him say that he was domiciled in London, while residing in Brussels.
I know that her dad was living in Reims in 1861, but I don’t know where he was until he moved to Brussels around 1878. Her mother was from Fourmies, France, but was also living in Brussels by 1887 when they married. Her father was still in Brussels in 1914 and was dead by 1915. My great-grandmother moved to London with her mother sometime before 1920.
Trying to guess their ages in the pictures, I’m wondering if my great-grandma was about 20, her brother 22, her mom 41, and her father 57. That’s how old they would all be if the pictures were taken in 1910.
I’d like to find out where this picture was taken. I’m wondering if anyone else has a picture with the same background or carpet/rug. I’ve tried to find pictures by anyone with a studio in Reims or Brussels, but nothing seems to match perfectly. Please let me know if you have similar looking photographs.

Mon arrière-grand-mère a dit qu’elle était originaire de Reims et que la photo a été prise à Reims. Cependant, j’ai retrouvé récemment son acte de naissance à Bruxelles en 1890 et celui de son frère en 1888. Et je sais que son père était à Bruxelles pour la plupart des années de 1878 à 1914. Tous les registres d’état civil je lui ai trouvé qu’il était domicilié à Londres, alors qu’il résidait à Bruxelles.
Je sais que son père vivait à Reims en 1861, mais je ne sais pas où il était jusqu’à ce qu’il s’installe à Bruxelles vers 1878. Sa mère était de Fourmies, France, mais vivait aussi à Bruxelles en 1887 quand ils se sont mariés. Son père était encore à Bruxelles en 1914 et était mort en 1915. Mon arrière-grand-mère a déménagé à Londres avec sa mère avant 1920.
Essayant de deviner leur âge sur les photos, je me demande si mon arrière-grand-mère avait environ 20 ans, son frère 22 ans, sa mère 41 ans et son père 57 ans. Ils auraient tous l’âge si les photos étaient prises en 1910.
J’aimerais savoir où cette photo a été prise. Je me demande si quelqu’un d’autre a une photo avec le même fond ou tapis. J’ai essayé de trouver des photos de quiconque ayant un studio à Reims, mais rien ne semble correspondre parfaitement. S’il vous plaît laissez-moi savoir si vous avez des photos similaires.
